Women Riders World Relay

Women Riders World Relay

Last week I took part in the first ever Woman Riders World Relay. I joined on day 8 that saw a group of women ride from Rhosnaigr in Wales to Buxton in England. We carried a baton that is going to get passed from group to group until it comes back to the UK in about a year’s time.

It was a mammoth task to organise and one young lady, Hayley Bell, pulled it off effortlessly. If you want to follow the journey, head over to https://womenridersworldrelay.com where you can learn more about the ride, track the baton live or join in somewhere on the way.

I love their values: “Be adventurous. Be courageous. Be inspiring. Be real. Be united.”

Connecting women riders across the world and raising awareness in the industry that more and more riders are women.

I was lucky to set off on this journey with my best friend of 18 years, Emma. We decided to head over to Rhosnaigr from Wrexham and Chester via the scenic route. However, by the time we’ve arrived to Betws-Y-Coed it was pouring down with rain and it was dark. We’ve stopped for a pizza and a drink and progressed towards Rhosnaigr in more rain, dark twisty roads with no street lighting and high winds.

Once we’ve arrived to our hotel, tired, wet and cold we still had the biggest grin on our faces. We’ve met with the rest of the girls and spent the evening catching up with them all.

The next day we all set off at 9am in a convoy of 15 riders. The rain was on and off, the winds were blowing sideways but we also had sunny spells and above all, lots of fun.

We’ve stopped in Whitchurch at the Raven Cafe where they served us free drinks. Then at J&S in Delamere for cake. Following on to Moto Guru in Macclesfield for some biscuits and finally over the famous Cat and Fiddle pass to Buxton.

Most of the girls from day 8 and day 9 all went to a Greek restaurant at the end of the day.

Emma and I returned home the next day wishing we’d stayed a bit longer. Perhaps we’ll join the relay at some point in another country.
